Frequently Asked Questions

Measuring for Your Murphy Door

First things first, you need to know the measurement of your door opening. You'll need 3 measurements.

  • Width
  • Height
  • Door jamb depth

These can be taken on a finished or rough opening, but rough opening is preferred.

You can also check out our measurement charts to ensure you get the right door for your opening!

Installing an In-Swing Single Murphy Door

Single Murphy Doors come fully assembled and pre-hung in the jamb, and the best part is that they install just like a standard interior door. You will need the following tools.

  • Drill
  • Level
  • Shims
  • Tape Measurer
  • Wood Glue/Finish nails

Installing an Out-Swing Murphy Door

You will need the same tools for an out-swing. The major difference is that the top trim piece has to be installed with a slight gap to allow the door to pass underneath during use.

Placing Your Hinge for an In-swing Door

Your in-swing hinge will be placed on the back of the door. Pushing the pin will release the catch and allow you to insert the pin through the hinge pieces.

Placing Your Hinge for an Out-swing Door

For an out-swing Murphy Door, make sure the bottom pin is in place, then slide the pin through the hole in the top of the cabinet. Make sure the pin enters through both hinge pieces.

How The Hinges Work (NEW STYLE)

For our Single and French Doors we use a ball bearing pivot hinge. It consists of a top hinge piece, and a bottom hinge piece. To get the pin in and out of the hinges use the black pin remover tool sent to you in your kit.

How Your Murphy Door is Delivered

Assembled Murphy Doors arrive standing up on a pallet. They are pre-hung in the jamb.

Delivery is curbside, the drivers are not able to take the door inside your home or garage. We recommend a second person or a dolly to help get your door from the curb into your home!

How The Hinges Work (OLD STYLE)

The older style of hinges work a little different than the newest generation. Here is a quick video overview on placing the pin on the old style hinges.
